Worthington, Walter Scott “Walt”, Jr.
75, of Spring Valley, passed away Monday June 13, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born Dec. 18, 1940 in Maysville, Kentucky to the late Ida May (Shearer) and Walter Scott Worthington, Sr. After graduating from Clarksville High School in 1958, Walt earned a degree in Engineering at Indiana University, where he met his future wife, Linda (Pinnell). In his younger days, he was a member of “the Rebels” Car Club and enjoyed drag racing. Walt was always mechanically and electrically inclined. Throughout his working years and in retirement, he enjoyed helping people by fixing and improving older things like radios, clocks and cars. One of his proudest moments was when his sons surprised him with a refurbished 1953 Studebaker Champion for his and Linda’s 50th wedding anniversary. Walt liked to stay informed by listening to the local police scanner. He was a longtime member (since 1980) and Past President of the Bellbrook Lions Club, and was a recipient of its Melvin Jones Award and Dick Bryan Award. Walt was the President of Bellbrook T-Ball Association, a Kentucky Colonel, and a former member of Ferry Church of Christ (now Crossview Christian Church). He also served as a Sugarcreek Township Trustee and Sugarcreek Bellbrook Park District Commissioner. Walt was honored as the Sugar Maple Citizen of the Year and inducted into the Bellbrook Schools Hall of Fame. He worked for J.R. Douglas Company in Cincinnati for more than 35 years as a Sales Engineer. Walt is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; two sons, Scott Worthington and his wife Mary, and David Worthington and his wife Tilda, all of Waynesville, seven grandchildren, Shelby, Lindsey, Michael, Holly, Rachel, Tyler, and Morgan. You are welcome to help the family celebrate Walt’s life by attending the visitation on Monday June 20th from 5-8 pm at CONNER& KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook, and the life celebration service on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Hugh Hurley will officiate. Burial will be in Bellbrook Cemetery.
