Like any other industry, funeral service has trends based on consumer preference and demand. These days the demand for cremation service is, by far, the most prevalent trend in the industry. Families from all over North America have shifted from the traditional funeral service, opting for more efficient, affordable and environmentally friendly death care options. Two generations ago, traditional funerals (visitation, funeral service and service at the cemetery) were common. It was what everyone expected.
As the demand for cremation services increased, there has been a shift in the types of services available. Many more families are choosing cremation and holding a memorial service afterwards. Family members and friends still came together to pay their respects to the deceased and find emotional support but they did so in less formal ways.
In addition, many families are opting to forgo somber funerals in favor of more creative, modern and personalized celebrations of life or memorial services which have become quite popular because there are no limits to the how, where, and when the life of a loved one can be celebrated. Understanding these trends is a large part of what we do at Conner & Koch funeral home as part of a constant effort to provide families with the services, products and experience that they are looking for in a funeral home.
We know that the needs and expectations of our families are changing and we've responded with funeral service options tailored to these new expectations. Also, you can rest assured that when you entrust a loved one into our care, that you will be treated as if you are part of ours.

The funeral industry is no exception to this trend with thousands of families using different platforms to help cover their loved one’s funeral expenses. Funeral crowdfunding can be used to raise funds to help cover the cost of a funeral, help support the surviving family and so much more.
Our funeral home uses a platform in partnership with GoFundMe called A Helping Hand. If you want to learn more about crowdfunding, please ask one of our funeral directors for more information.

25 years ago, the only way you could express your condolences to someone was by speaking to them or writing them a letter. Thanks to advancements to technology, the way we honor a loved one or express our condolences has completely changed. With tools like the Book of Memories (BOM), families can now have online memorial pages where users can pay tribute to their loved one. With the BOM, your family can record video condolences, share videos and photos, leave heartfelt messages or even make a donation in honor of the deceased. To learn more about the Book of Memories, speak to one of our funeral directors.
Many experts are now predicting that the cremation rate will exceed 70% by the year 2030. In the past few years, the popularity of cremation has risen and more than 50% of families across the country are selecting cremation over burial. As more and more people have less religious affiliation, the idea of planning a traditional funeral service is less appealing. Instead, families are now looking for services that offer more personalization options at a more affordable price.
Thanks to research by scholars and academics globally, we are beginning to have a better understanding of mental health and how to treat it. Research has helped us as funeral professionals better understand grief and how it can be coped with. As mental health awareness continues to improve, it is likely that new coping materials and practices will be developed to help families treat their grief and adjust to life without their loved one.
