Velma was born Jan. 1, 1921 in Akron, Oh to Maude (Thomas) and George Guy Andrews. She attended Kent State University where she majored in Elementary Education. Velma met John Critz at Kent State who after dating for a year , became her husband. She had a deep love for animals. Velma owned dogs and cats throughout the years, loved feeding the birds and watching deer. She also loved reading and nurturing flowers and plants, especially when she received them from her family. She enjoyed watching Fox News and staying current in world events. More than anything, she was passionate about her kids and grandkids. She will be lovingly remembered for supporting them in various sporting events and activities. Velma passed away Thursday Nov. 12th at Hospice of Dayton at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mildred Andrews; and husband of 54 yrs., John Paul Critz (Dec. 15, 1995). Velma is survived by her family, son George (Doris) of Columbia, Ky.; daughter Rose Fey of Oneida, Tenn.; son Bruce (Brenda) of Waynesville; son Rich (Cheryl) of Bellbrook; daughter Pam McKeever (Rick) of Bellbrook; Barbara Riley of Denver, Co.; 13 grandchildren, Laura (Ron), Lianna (Craig), Andy (Jessica), Leah (Kyle), Brian (Shanthala), Bradley, Ashley (Luke), Jordan, Alayna (Rocky), Erin, Melissa, Nathan, and Tiffany; 11 great-grandchildren; and her cat Scooter. You are invited to Velma’s life celebration visitation on Mon. Nov. 16th from 5-7 pm at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook (937-848-6651) where you can share some ice cream with caramel (one of Velma’s favorite desserts). A life celebration service will be held the following day, Tuesday, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Bellbrook Cemetery. To celebrate Velma’s love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to SICSA (sicsa.org) or Hospice of Dayton (hospiceofdayton.org).
