Print
Bayer, David Alan, age 79, of Kettering, passed away Sunday, February 4th, 2018.
David was born November 18th, 1938 in Hazelcrest, Illinois to Florence (Gundersen) and John August Bayer. He was formerly a police sergeant for the Chicago Police Dept., and also formerly employed at PK Home Shopping Center where he worked as the assistant store manager.
David enjoyed being a writer. He wrote books, plays and music. Many of his writings are lovingly remembered by his family and friends. David was an avid Chicago sports fan. He loved cheering for the Bulls, Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. He enjoyed watching old movies with his grandkids and playing poker with the guys in the family.
David really loved to sing his way through life. He would sing with his kids and grand-kids, in the choir, and as a way to keep each and every day light and fun. Above all, David lived his life trying to be the best husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa that he could be.
David was a parishoner at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, a member of its parish council and choir, and volunteered in the cafeteria. He also volunteered in the Castle where he wrote 25 Christmas plays.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and five sisters. David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan (Smith), seven children, Elaine Janicki (Mark), Timothy Bayer, James Bayer, Terriann Ward (Christopher), David Bayer (Jackie), Judy Bayer, and Matt Bayer (Beth); 22 grandchildren, Jennifer Richardson, Michelle Hess, Joshua, Jacob, Dominic, Ryan and Allison Bayer, Mikayla Wilson, Andrew Bayer, Zachary, Adam, and Brian Ward, Shanna and Sterling Gregory, Sierra Branham, Savana Shaltry, Riley, Mitchell, Hannah, Ben, Alaina, and Camryn Bayer; 25 great-grandchildren; and dearest friends, Monica and Tom Grekowicz.
