Simmons, George R, age 85, of Bellbrook, passed away Thursday, April 27th, 2017 in Yellow Springs.
He was born March 27,1932 to Albert Simmons and Florence Simmons (Barnett ). He graduated from Wilmington College with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and went on to earn a Masters Degree in Chemistry from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio. George started as a research chemist but spent most of his career in management levels. He was employed with the US Public Health, Morris Bean, McCall's, NCR, Mead, Avery, and Bemis. He was part of the research team that developed carbonless paper and early scanning technology.
George was a member of the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Historical Society, Cleveland Mineral Society (President), Bellbrook Lions Club, BSACC, and Old Village Review Board. He was a serious rock hound who amassed a large collection of minerals and shells. He loved to share his passions through presentations at museums and schools as well as authoring several publications.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Billie Jeanne (Barrett) Simmons, and brother James Alan Simmons. George is survived by daughters Jeri J Simmons of Bellbrook, Jodi (Andy) Gradolph of Wilmington, and son Michael (Debbie) Simmons of Philadelphia, PA; 3 grandchildren Liz Nesbit, Maira Nesbit, and Berik Nesbit; nephew Albert Simmons and niece Julia Simmons of California, and dear friend Nina Myatt of Yellow Springs.
The family will receive friends and family for a celebration of George’s life at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5 to 7pm. A Funeral Services will be held immediately after visitation at 7:00 pm at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home 92 West Franklin Street BELLBROOK, OH 45305. The family will hold private burial services at Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
