Ira Eugene "Gene" Shinkle
Beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend, passed away Tuesday February 14, 2012 at Kindred Hospital, Dayton, at the age of 82. Gene was born May 16, 1929 in New Burlington to Edna (Evans) and John Ira Shinkle. He resided in Spring Valley where he had a big garden and could grow anything and everything. Gene loved to garden. Gene also enjoyed collecting newspaper clippings. He was formerly employed with Frigidaire. Gene was an avid Reds fan and loved the outdoors. He was likely to be seen outside in a flannel shirt. Gene's accomplishment that he was the most proud was raising a family. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Donald and Jack, sister Mary Louise Spurlock and daughter Diana Ruth Shinkle. Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie Marie (Shaw) Shinkle, 4 sons Ira Eugene Jr. of Spring Valley, James Arthur of Fairborn, David Allen of Spring Valley, and Calvin Lee of Xenia, 3 daughters Theresa Coleman of Wilmington, Jean Bailey & husband Phil of Xenia, and Tiffany Knisley of Dayton, 2 sisters Patty Shrout of Clearwater, Florida, Janet Wead & husband Philip of Springfield, and brother-in-law Troy Spurlock of Germantown. Graveside services 1:00 pm Wednesday at Spring Valley Cemetery. In memory of Gene, contributions may be made to his memorial fund, c/o Conner & Koch Funeral Home, 92 W.
